MWAN, Rivers Observatory on VAWG Activities

The Rivers State Observatory on violence against women and girls have continued to get reports of violence from around Rivers State. These reports largely came in from Port Harcourt and Obio Akpor Local Government Areas. In a bid to spread our tentacles to the grass roots and the rural communities in the state where about 70% of the population are, we are now embarking on Local Government Area Sensitization.

First stop was Okrika Local Government Area where we sensitized women, children, youths and the CDC on what constitutes VAWG and ways that violence can be reduced in Okrika.DSC_0660DSC_0620DSC_0594

Up next came Obio Akpor and Oyigbo LGAs that took place at the LGA Council and Mbano camp respectively. The security agencies, youth leaders, women and students were fully represented. The OBSTEC team is also carrying out baselines to determine the prevalence of violence against women and girls in the LGAs, traditional practices that encourage VAWG, as well as community efforts to reduce same.

Call us up or drop a comment to invite us to your LGA. we would appreciate that.
