MWAN/PIND Project

MWAN Rivers joins the world to commemorate the international Day for the elimination of violence against women and girls (VAWG) today, 25th November.

It marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) which continues till 10th December…the International day on Human Rights. The 2019 theme is
“Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands against Rape!”

During the next 16 days and thereafter, MWAN Rivers with support from Foundation for Partnerships Initiative in the Niger Delta (PIND) hopes to raise awareness (Orange the world) and build women and girls’ capacity on preventive/negotiation skills against violence. We expect attitudinal change and practices towards VAWG leading to breaking the culture of silence, improved reporting and access to available interventions, as this will accelerate transformative gains for women in the society. To achieve this goal we intend to:

  1. To raise awareness on GBV and spark a state level conversation on the need for inclusive, proactive and sustainable strategies to end VAWG.
  2. To provide a platform for women and girls to access essential, safe and adequate multi-sectoral services to end VAWG.
