Update of SPDC Supported Breast & Cervical Cancers Focused Care
Reporting Period: October 2021
Objective 1. Investigate, diagnose and enrol 5 women with early-stage breast or cervical cancer
Activities 1. Sensitization of the public through radio talks, distribution of IEC materials and community/ church outreaches on breast cancer awareness 2. Screening at MWAN Centre 3. Active search of cases in RSUTH and UPTH Surgery and histopathology departments 4. Daily / weekly communications with the women that were short-listed for possible enrolment into the Focused Cancer Care project. 5. Three clients out of 5 were enrolled and treatment plan discussed with the clinicians. 6. FCC team review meetings and follow up of enrollees
Outcomes of activities 1. More than 500 women reached with information. 400 fliers on breast and cervical cancer given distributed 2. Screening done for 48 women (breast) and 42(cervical) 3. Three enrolled clients on treatment and follow up doing satisfactorily well 4. One client received a grant as support for chemotherapy which commenced Wednesday 28th October, 2021
Emerging Issues 1. Reluctance of clients to commence treatment 2. Provision for other welfare needs of enrolees
Next steps 1. Enrol 2 more clients into FCC Project 2. Discuss treatment plans with clients / clinicians 3. Obtain informed consent and commence work up investigations 4. Commence cancer treatment for newly enrolled clients 5. Follow up treatment of enrolled beneficiaries
