Reducing Violence Against Women & Girls in Rivers State
The Rivers State Observatory on VAWG has doubled her efforts in implementing activities in 2016 as the grant gradually winds down.
In a bid to sustain the efforts and gains of observatory project, the steering committee (OBSTEC) decided to embark on Community sensitization and engagement of key stakeholder at the Local Government Areas.
First stop were Okrika and Obio Akpo LGAs whose sensitization held on the 14th and 15th April respectively. Participants were sensitized on what constitutes VAWG, the role of the OBSTEC in reporting, referral and response as well as how to access available interventions. The participants also learnt their role as individuals, families and communities in the reduction of VAWG.
Key outcomes of these programs were baselines for the prevalence and frequency of VAWGs in the LGAs, traditional or cultural practices that promote VAWG, available interventions and reporting lines.
Thursday 28th and Friday 29th April, the OBSTEC train is moving to Oyigbo and Omuma LGA respectively.
Watch out, Your LGA may be the next!
